E-juice Blog: Does Change in Color Affect Vape E-juice?

Every week we receive some questions about e-juice. In this e-juice blog, we are going to cover one of the common questions from new vapers. Why does e-juice look different in different bottles?

You might have noticed that your e-juice sometimes turn to yellow, brown, orange or darker color in the tank. When e-juice turns in to a different color, you might be worried that has gone “bad” and is going to taste differently. However, you don’t have to worry as the change in color does not affect the taste or does not show the e-juice if defective in any way.

Why does E-juice Change in Color?

In most cases, e-liquid changes color when you leave it opened or in the sun for a long time. Oxygen and light are catalysts to nicotine, and exposing the e-liquid to light or oxygen for a long time results in color change. This is common for some certain flavor of e-juice, especially the sweeter and darker ones.

To avoid the color changes, you have to store your e-liquid in a cool and dark place. All e-juice liquid is available in clear plastic bottles and is prone to light exposure. So if you want your liquid to retain its original color throughout, it is recommended that you buy the e-liquid in darkened glass bottles. It is also important to make sure that your e-liquid is tightly sealed throughout.

However, if you like having e-juice in a clear bottle, make sure to store the e-liquid in a dark and cooler place. You can store the e-liquid in the refrigerator, but if you afford, you can get a dedicated case for your e-juice. If you live in a cool environment, you can keep the e-liquid in any dark sport such as a closet, cabinet or bed frame so long as there is no sun beating on it all day.

priceBut what if my E-juice is Nicotine Free but Changes in Color?

Even nicotine free e-liquid can change in color. If your e-juice features chocolate or any sweeter or flavoring in it, there is a chance that the sweetener has darkened it. The VG content of the juice can also change the color of the e-juice. Some ingredients in some e-juice flavors necessitate e-juice to have high VG content, which can cause e-juice to turn dark.

Is the Vendor to Blame?

In rare cases, it could be the vendor’s fault that the e-juice is turning the color. But if the juice continues to darken after the purchase, chances are the vendor did not steep the –juice. However, if the e-liquid does not continue to darken after the purchase, then it is likely that it is the nature of the e-liquid. Steeping is done before shipping the liquid and is done mainly by high-end vendors. However, low-quality brands are shipped before they are ready and are not steeped before shipping.

Final Verdict

Color changes do not affect the quality or taste of e-juice. However, do avoid the yellow, brown, orange or darker color changes in the tank you need to ensure that the liquid is not exposed to the sun for a long time. We shall discuss more e-liquid in our e-juice blog.
